Comfort Camping vs Defqon.1 Camping ground

One of the reasons Defqon.1 is every year a great success for us, is partially caused by our choice of residence during the weekend: our stay at the Comfort Camping. It's amazing to be able to relax comfortably and enjoy some luxury during a weekend full of brutal stamping and heavy kicks. Are you a Weekend Warrior who is looking for a little bit more privacy, luxury and comfort in order to go on maximum force during the entire weekend? We compared our Comfort Camping experience with the Defqon.1 Camping Ground experience, so that you can decide for yourself whether the Comfort Camping is really worth it.

The Comfort Camping is only a few steps away from the festival grounds and with all the craziness of the camping right at your doorstep. You are within no-time part of the self-organised after parties, yet the option to retreat during the night is also still available. At the cozy ‘Comfort’ you will find aside from accommodations, basically everything what you need to make your weekend complete and one to remember. A large indoor chill area with benches, hot tubs, a separate toilet- and shower building (clean and with warm water), food stands and a coin machine to refill your tickets, it’s all there.

Once you arrive on Friday, full of energy, fluttering past the numerous campings with your stuff, you will eventually arrive at Camp Ground One, where the Comfort Camping is located. Provided with a special Comfort Camping-brace you will be welcomed by an oasis of relaxation. While everyone at the regular campsites is struggling with their tent poles, lost herrings or even finding a place to stay, everyone at the Comfort Camping is embracing the quiet atmosphere.

There is a wide range of different kinds of accommodations to choose from; we decided to choose a Safari tent. The Safari tent has already been prepared for you, which means that you do not have to run, push or pull to get a proper place at the camping. And we can tell that you will be very happy, when you arrive at your tent realizing that you only have to stash your stuff inside. No stress, just a great start of the weekend with a cold drink and some background music to get you in the mood for the BBQ which starts at 5 o’clock, specially organized by Q-dance for residents of the Comfort Camping.

The Safari tent is rather huge from the inside. You will easily be able to stand up straight and jump around, even when you are just as tall as Radical Redemption. The tent is provided with two completely made-up bunk beds, a cool box, a power strip, paved floor, lights which can be turned off/on with a remote controller and four chairs. And if you are with a group of eight people, the option exists to connect neighboring Safari tents by unzipping certain parts and connecting those. This will create a massive new party tent for eight Weekend Warriors!

In the meantime, the real work begins at the regular Defqon.1 Camping. Once you have found a spot to stay — or decided that the ditch will be your place to sleep for the weekend — the time has come to set up your tent. In other words; figuring out which stick should be connected to which stick and especially through which slot it belongs in order to connect the whole structure…

Hitting herrings, if they have not been lost yet, to make sure that you will not drown during the night by the beautiful Dutch weather. We haven’t even begun talking about the hustle with your neighbors, if they decide that it’s a good idea to put their cooker and party tent only two centimeters away from your tent. It comes down to you and your ability to make yourself feel comfortable rather than having it provided for you. Survival of the fittest!

Aside from the struggles of setting up your tent the Defqon.1 Camping Ground also has its charms. You build your own tribe amidst the party noise and you might even become friends for life with your new neighbors. You will without doubt experience special and hilarious moments at the camping ground. And with a weekend that is connected to ‘getting fucked up’ you simply expect that going back to basics is part of it. But don’t forget to worship the sun gods as you do want them on your side when residing in a defenseless tent.

Do you have a strong stomach? Then you will probably survive the toilets at the Defqon.1 Camping Ground. Yet we are every time relieved that we can use clean toilets at the Comfort Camping rather than those at the Camping Ground. Aside from dirty toilets, the showers at the Camping Ground are also a problem. If you want to shower at the camping in the early morning you might want to prepare yourself. We can guarantee you that you will have to wait before being able to shower, that applies especially to women. Once you finally to get hold of a shower you still need to pay a coin and pray for some warm water.

The first time at the Comfort Camping we walked with this thought in mind on Saturday morning at 10 AM to the showers, which you by the way only share with people who stay at this camping site, which is a lot less than the amount of people at the regular camping sites. We prepared ourselves mentally and expected to be confronted with a huge amount of people but to our surprise there was basically no one there. We could still choose between three showers which were still available and especially clean.

The same applies by the way to the toilets. Amazingly quiet, always provided with toilet paper and clean. Since the Comfort Camping is so closely situated near the BLUE stage, we have to admit that we sometimes decided to skip the toilets of the BLUE, since those were simply disgusting and replete. Another advantage; you are close enough to the festival grounds to walk back and forth, but far enough to experience a feeling nuisance because of the noise.

Even though the Comfort Camping is quite expensive, it’s definitely worth your money. One of the reasons is the fact that you do not have haul all your camping stuff. Especially for Weekend Warriors from abroad this is a brilliant solution. Or for those seeking some extra luxury like us. You are here after all to go full speed for three consecutive days for which you need a lot of energy, you will need to conserve this where you can. It remains to be a camping after all, so of course you will still not be able to close an eye if your neighbors decide to put on some terror music during the night or play a game of jeu de ket, yet we did not experience any of this nuisance during our stays last year.

At the Comfort you will experience the same cozy camping atmosphere as at the regular camping site yet with a smaller amount of people, better facilities and more luxury which will surely enhance your weekend experience: definitely a recommendation if you seek to enrich your Defqon.1 weekend and want to enjoy every second to the fullest!
