Intents Festival 2019

mitchell
Mitchell van Eenige - 6 June 2019
Oisterwijk, no, the whole province of Noord Brabant was previous weekend completely in the light of Intents Festival which is probably one of our favourite weekenders of the festival season. The festival grounds are transformed into an Intents superhero capital. It almost felt as if spent three days in a comic book. In either one, two or three days you got the opportunity to release your inner superhero just like Captain Intents, Bionitron, Lady Phoenix, The Demolitioner or Mr. Insanity. We present you Intents: Calling All Superheroes.

Friday 31th of May, Intents Festival pre-party

It’s Friday the 31th of May. The sun shines bright and warms our face. It’s promised that this warm feeling will get even worse during the weekend. The highway exit just before Intents Festival already gives us the special feeling of coming back once again, the feeling of a party that has remained to feel cozy especially compared to other big weekenders who have grown really large in size. This is what makes Intents truly special.

Ticket scanned, bracelet wrapped around our arm, ready to enter the grounds of the IntentsCity. Our Intents Festival tent is luckily already set up in advance near the entrance of the festival grounds and the entrance itself. That always saves us and many other a lot of distress and energy with tent poles. We put our stuff in our tent, put some music on, find some comfort in our folding chairs and grab some beers: the weekend is ready to begin!

The campsite starts to fill up and as you look around you will realise that everyone is already in his or her element. Whether they’re still setting up your tent, chilling out in the sun or already starting some conversations with their neighbours it’s clearly visible that’s going to be a great weekend. Combined with a nice sun shining its rays of light on the festival grounds the ultimate feeling of the festival camping is guaranteed!

At IntentsCity you can indulge yourself in various activities such as the ball box, the cinema or even challenge your friends to play a game of bubble football: everything has been thought of. Aside from this the camping has been set up very well-arranged which makes it easily navigable. Anything you need is present, from campingshop to silent disco! What more could you wish for?

At 4 o’clock the first beats can be heard coming from the festival grounds which mark the official kick-off of the pre-party of Intents Festival 2019. The bbq’s are being lighted up and everyone is already preparing themselves properly for the very first evening of the weekend. Four stages are being opened for the first night: the indoor mainstage hosted by D-Block & S-Te-Fan, Dynamite vs. Outrageous, Fanaticz and the Boombox.

intents-festival-2
The Boombox is provided with some great sounds by Odium and also the crowd in front of the indoor mainstage is partying wildly as D-Block & S-Te-Fan are kicking off the weekend at their own stage. Even though the atmosphere is good, we do miss every campsite residents such as those at Defqon. 1 or Decibel outdoor. In the meantime the Fanaticz stage is being demolished by heavy kickrolls caused Requiem who is bringing us back to his live-set at QAPITAL at which he premiered ‘The Reckoning’. He tops it off with his collab with Deadly Guns which marks the end of his heavy set.

We decided to pick up some happy freestyle beats delivered by Pat B when we suddenly got the notification by Jason Payne that the Fanaticz and Dynamite vs Outrageouz stages are being switched around. Before going back to the indoor mainstage to see Dee-Block & S-Te-Pack we still pick up some raw kicks and then head off to experience the crazy live-set packed with craziness, happiness and timeless classics. It’s really great to how, aside from the crowd, also the djs and the mc’s (Villain and Da Syndrome are together at the stage) are enjoying themselves to the max.

In the meantime the sun starts to set and the show elements are starting to stand out more. Phuture Noize and Sub Zero Project are putting the tent upside down with epic tracks such as their collabs ‘Call of the Sacred’ and ‘We Are The Fallen’ while Thyron is truly destroying the Fanaticz stage with tracks from his newly released album called ‘My Way’ yet with surprising elements which makes us say: We dig it!

intents-festival-3
The indoor mainstage, which functions as the hardcore stage on Saturday and Sunday, is being closed by D-Sturb. Together with Sub Zero Project he is responsible for this year’s anthem and is clearly very excited to present this anthem along with his other tracks to the crowd. With high power, great melodic raw hardstyle and a huge amount of enthusiasm he closes the very first day of Intents Festival in style.

Saturday 1th of June, Intents Festival

Morning sunshine! It was hard to remain inside your tent in the early morning as the sun literally tried to burn you out of your tent. The only force of energy that helps us survive the hangover are the memories of the pre- and afterparty adventures of yesterday. Today’s a new day!

The terrain is early in the morning already crowded. All stages are opened today and if possible we would have liked to split ourselves in three parts to experience everything. The festival grounds are decorated beautifully as were are used to at Intents Festival and the mainstage looks absolutely amazing. It’s in fact quite an honour and it feels like a real party to celebrate with such a stage in front of you. The theme of ‘superheroes’ is being implemented perfectly into every single detail that it almost feels as we have entered a real comic book.

The opening of the indoor mainstage is truly something you don't want to miss. It’s not just crowded, but also really hot inside the tent. Yet this does not stop B-Front and E-Force from playing their best tracks of their previous years. Combined with new material this set guarantees a great atmosphere and it makes sure that we keep up with the heat. No matter the temperature everyone is going full throttle. Singing along, jumping around, looking each other straight in the face and just feeling every track creates a great vibe in the indoor stage. Our could not have started better!

KELTEK is playing a great set at the mainstage. All his well known tracks come along such as his share in this year’s Defqon.1 anthem and Valkyries but he also surprises us with several new tracks. Since we really try to split ourselves in two today we decide to go to Rejecta vs Clockartz at the Fanaticz stage halfway through. This combination is basically Italy vs Brabant, truly a great one! The crowd is going wild, the artists are going wild, the tracks are heavy as they should be and the atmosphere is simply perfect.

At 6 o’clock it’s time for the classics. We are still sweating like pigs and the temperature is in fact still too high yet we still dare to enter the indoor mainstage to experience the classics by B-Front and E-Force. The feeling of overheating is literally melting away when ‘Magic’ is played. WOW! This is the music we want to hear. Both djs really manage to hit the right chords with their classic tracks. Everyone around us is really enjoying themselves and which is for us already the pinnacle of ecstasy. What a day!

intents-festival-4
“When dark takes over the light”, with flashing lights and police cars Sub Zero Project and D-Sturb enter the mainstage to present their anthem. Luckily the temperature has started to drop a little already which makes it more easy to really release all our energy. The kicks of ‘Heroes of the Night’ are blasting through the speakers and the mid-intro really gives us shivers. The energy of D-Sturb and Sub Zero Project behind the decks is simply inexhaustible and it seems that everything is really falling into place especially combined with the gorgeous mainstage.

Once the sun really begins to set it’s time for the highlight of the day: The Dutch premiere of the live-act by D-Block & S-Te-Fan called ‘Ghost Stories’. We are already looking forward to this moment already for quite a long time and it’s in fact even better than expected. The shows starts off with a smokescreen hovering above the audience which really creates a mysterious atmosphere. It’s becoming dark and gloomy. D-Block & S-Te-Fan are putting on a great show together with singer Evelyn. It’s completely different from their normal sets yet they still stick close to their sound which makes it a brilliant live-act. Everything is on point: the smoke, the lasers, the show elements, the crowd: it all comes together in perfect harmony

The last hour of the night starts and it completely dedicated to the last level of the live-act sequence of D-Sturb. This is level 6: The Ultimate. During this set he is playing the best tracks of the previous levels along with a brand new track representing ‘The Ultimate’.D-Sturb really manages to connect raw and melodic hardstyle and is therefore one of the most promising artists of the moment. It is a wise choice to let him close off the mainstage of Intens Festival. An amazing set which does not lack anything!

intents-festival-5
Once the last track of the night has faded out we are ready to enjoy a huge amount of fireworks and a beautiful endshow. We hear Frans Bauer singing ‘Thunder’ followed by a firework show which fills up the sky. Aside from this we also hear, as expected, this year’s anthem, ‘KELTEK & Hard Driver - Valley of the Blind’ and a brand new Sefa track. The day is now really over and done. But not for the citizens of Intensity. They still enjoy some time at the campsite, going to the afterparty, going to the silent disco or perhaps just taking some rest to recharge for Sunday!

Sunday 2th of June, Intens Festival

The party starts a little later on sunday yet that's quite a pleasant thing for those who have already experienced two days of partying. There are some changes regarding the stages as the hardcore stage is being hosted by Destructive Tendencies and the indoor mainstage by LNY TNZ representing ‘FVCK GENRES’. The minimal age of entry has been changed as well which means that visitors of the age of 17 are also welcome. It’s remarkable to see that it’s much calmer in terms of crowd size which makes it more easy to find a great spot at your favourite stages to party our socks off!

It’s hot! Today’s is not a day of mild temperatures so we decide to take a step back. The sun is burning harshly and with 30 degrees Celcius it’s difficult to go pedal to the metal. Yet it does make this day perfect to get some ice cold cocktails (we really recommend Sex on the Beach!) and take some rest in the shadows or take a ride in either the Booster or the ferris wheel. These attractions can really enhance your experience as it gives you a different view on the mainstage high in the sky. It almost feels as if you’re a superhero yourself!

intents-festival-6
After having wandered around the festival grounds for some time we eventually stick to the mainstage as E-Force is really pressing the gas pedal with some heavy hitting tracks such as ‘The End’ and ‘Genesis’. Not just E-Force, but also Digital Punk vs Act of Rage and Rebelion vs Rejecta manage to truly please the crowd with a high dose of epic tracks. Delete follows them up with a spectacular VIP set with some brand new edits such as ‘Unstoppable VIP’, ‘Louder VIP’ and even a VIP-mashup of ‘Pleasure & Pain’.

Mother nature eventually also decides to show up and rather than finding some shelter we decide to visit D-Block & S-Te-Fan at the Relive stage. Dark clouds are forming themselves above the crowd and it even starts to rain! As D-Block & S-Te-Fan start playing ‘The Sound of the Thunder’ something miraculous happens: the sky is illuminated by an intense lightning bolt. “Heavy noises are taking you under. This is the sound, the sound of the thunder!” Who would have thought that? Perfect timing! Is God really a dj?

intents-festival-7
To top it all off Mental Theo, Partyraiser and Dr. Peacock are given the chance to utterly destroyed the mainstage of Intents Festival 2019 for one last time. The tone is clearly set by several heavy tracks such as ‘Kick of je Bek’, All My Friends Are Dead’ and ‘Pussy Motherfuckerz’. Even though the combination of artists might seem a bit odd, it exceeds all expectations! It’s in fact a great diversity of happy, rough and loud tracks - perfect to close the evening with! The evening is closed with a great endshow and a huge dose of fireworks once again. Intents Festival 2019 is a wrap.

Or is it?! The campsite is still bursting with energy of all the citizens who decide to go to party till the sun comes up. That will be the point where the realisation kicks in: the comic book has been read, it’s time for all the superheroes to go to bed.

Every visitor of Intents Festival 2019 can say with great pride that he or she has been a true superhero as they have managed to brave the heat, the nights without sleep and the ear shattering sets of several of the most leading harder styles acts. Luckily the follow-up is already on the planning so we hope to see you again next year, on the 5th 6th and 7th of June! Intents Voltage!
