There’s a newcomer in town: Rude Convict is a brand new act, fresh from the studio. Even though you might recognize the face of Thomas Tamerus the hardstyle act ‘Rude Convict’ does in fact consist of three people. While Thomas is playing behind the decks, Sander and Eric are supporting him in the studio cooking up fresh tracks.

It was Thomas who started the idea of starting a hardstyle act. He explains: “I wanted to do something with hardstyle already for quite some time already ”. My very first hardstyle event was Intents Festival back in 2014. That day I was with a group of friends doubting whether hardstyle would be our call, whether Intents Festival would really be something for us. Thomas is one of the many people who got instantly infected by the hardstyle virus and found himself in love with the music from the very first second. It wasn’t just the music that made me feel at home, the feeling of hardstyle itself was already enough to give me shivers. Whoever you are, whatever you do everyone is welcome at such an event as everyone shares the same passion for the music. According to me, that’s what makes it at least a hundred times more exciting than other types of music as hardstyle can really evoke a feeling of euphoria.

Thomas was eager to explore more about hardstyle and its background and so he eventually came in contact with Sander and Erik. It was a match made in heaven as the three men could really get along well with each other in the studio. By working together with these talented guys I really managed to get the chance to achieve something in the hardstyle scene. As far as everything is turning out so far we seem to do really well.

Dare to do it different

The fact that Thomas was really inspired by the pure feeling of hardstyle rather than just the sound of the music itself is according to him one of the decisive factors for creating new music and tracks. Rude Convicts represents the image of someone who used to be ‘imprisoned’ in a cage but now managed to break free from the norm. It’s basically the escape of a prisoner. We base our vision on the hardstyle scene of today as the scene has started to blur the line between raw and euphoric hardstyle. We don’t tend to think in boxes anymore which is also reflected in our tracks as we don’t really consider us to be raw-artists, we rather just make music that we love.

Thomas considers having a unique sound and style to be very important. “Our aim is to cross boundaries and break free from the norm. We truly want to become an act that people want to base their timetable on, which is something that can only be achieved when you possess your own kind of vibe and express that in your tracks. DJ’s such as E-Force, Rejecta and D-Sturb are huge examples for the three boys. We don’t try to copy anyone yet we believe that our style fits in well with these guys. According to us their sound is a perfect mix of hard kicks and good melodies. It’s simply energetic, usually really loud but above all it enhances the mood of the audience which is all that matters. That’s really something we consider to be important, we try to incorporate this mixture of elements into our own sound.

“WE TRULY WANT TO BECOME AN ACT THAT PEOPLE WANT TO BASE THEIR TIMETABLE ON, WHICH IS SOMETHING THAT CAN ONLY BE ACHIEVED WHEN YOU POSSESS YOUR OWN KIND OF VIBE AND EXPRESS THAT IN YOUR TRACKS.”

Even though the act appears to be thinking in terms of dreams they have in fact already signed with a label: Rough Recruits, the talent label of Roughstate. According to the boys this label fits best with their sound and ambitions. In the meantime they have already released three tracks so far: two tracks were released on Rough Recruits, one was even released on the main label of Roughstate.

“We sent our first track called ‘Going Psycho’ just two weeks before Defqon.1 Festival 2018 as as a promo to several dj’s. We were hoping that perhaps one of the dj’s was willing to play our track during their set at Defqon.1: this is basically the dream of every dj, it’s probably the best way to start your road to recognition. This would be a dream that came true as Adaro played ‘Going Psycho’ in a packed BLUE. ‘‘That was totally insane! Our first track was played by Adaro at the BLUE! The boys received a lot of positive reactions on their promo-track from different labels. Eventually they decided to sign at Roughstate as it suits them best based on their sound.

‘Going Psycho’ is not just released on Roughstate but it is also featured on the very last Hard Bass cd. “The cd mainly consists of big names in the hardstyle scene who have produced huge tracks, seeing your name between the other names truly makes us feel proud! In fact our track is the very last track of the album, the closing-track you could say.

At the moment the boys of Rude Convict are mainly focussed at creating tracks and generating bookings in order to gain some recognition. “Our focus is primarily on working towards more brand awareness while exploring the opinion of the audience on our tracks and sets, we want to know what appeals to them. Aside from this they secretly already dream about having a spot among the other established names on the main label of Roughstate. “One day we might also be able to create anthem for an event, or perhaps we will be able to play our tracks abroad. These things are also high on our list!
