REBELLiON 2019 - Call of the Dome

Jeroen van Velzen - 28 November 2019
Last Saturday, it was once again time for REBELLiON which was this year transformed into a hidden jungle. Even though most of the hardstyle fanatics chose to go to Qlimax to taste the mysterious atmosphere of euphoric melodies, the true raw rebels decided to join ‘The Call of the Dome’ in Haaren. With a line-up consisting of some of the most prominent names in the raw scene such as Act of Rage, Delete and D-Sturb, REBELLiON guaranteed a party full of loud kicks and heavy bass lines. This is REBELLiON - Call of the Dome!

The location of this year’s edition has been held secret for a while with one promise: the event will be bigger. We’ve got high expectations because of this. Once we arrive at the countryside of Haaren in quite the middle of nowhere in front of a large dome (hence call of the dome), the terrain is already started to become rather crowded. Level One has just started playing his first tracks and once our tickets have been scanned we are ready to go completely crazy under the dome of raw!

At 15:00 the sound is not yet at full force but at the very moment that Bloodlust and Artifact come up and the atmosphere is starting to get a little better it seems as if the sound is getting louder as well. With tracks such as ‘Other Worlds’ and of course ‘Imma Boss’ the crowd is being served at their beck and everyone is already going mental to the kickrolls of both DJ's. The curtains of light provide extra atmosphere and its gradually getting busier at the mainstage. The upbeat energy is clearly sensible at both the crowd as well as the DJ's who are going crazy as well.

The following two acts that can show what they are capable of are none other than RVAGE who premieres his 'New Dimension' album showcase and Myst who is doing a regular live set. With surprising edits of tracks such as 'Famous' and a 200 bpm edit of 'Drop the Bass' the crowd is having a great time and the volume is going up. Ready to rave!

However, it is unfortunate to see that, compared to RVAGE, Myst does not manage to keep the same pace of mixing which seems to reduce the energy of the crowd. Time for a look at area two where it is busier than expected. Aversion is playing a nice set here!

Back at the main stage is none other than Rooler responsible for creating a great atmosphere and he knows to awaken everyone by starting with the track 'Klaplongen' by Sick Mode. It's great to see how from the very first minute and everyone is going mental once again which is something Rooler seems to realise as well. The mixing rate is very high and it seems as if the crowd doesn’t get a single minute of rest - and this for a whole hour! That’s how raw should be! He closes his set with the two collaborations with Sefa and so putting an end to energetic sixty minutes. In our opinion one of the best sets of the day!

D-Sturb is up next and he is taking us on an hour-long journey of new songs and edits. Among other collaborations, the tracks 'Synchronized' and 'Imma OG' with Warface, D-Sturb closes nice and hard with the two versions of 'Nothing Like The Old School' with Sefa. Act Of Rage, who is playing after D-Sturb, knows seamlessly to connect with the style of D-Sturb here and knows to keep the pace as well. The Kicks that Act Of Rage is firing on the crowd are clearly made of Steel!

But during Delete something remarkable happens. Because the crowd is so loud loose, the sweat of the ceiling seems to come down. This did not spoil the fun of Delete however since he manages to play an incredibly loud sets that exceeds every expectation! An hour full of VIP edits and new songs like ‘Peace’ and ‘The Mind Shut Up’ allows the audience to go all the way. Can it get even harder?!

Yes! The next trio consisting of luminite, Ncrypta and Thyron knows how to put the A in 'atmosphere' and let the crowd to go completely mental once again during the very first kicks. With the edits of Luminite such as 'Bass Criminal' and brand new tracks of Thyron as 'The Void' and 'Break Your Neck’ nothing seems to be left standing of The Dome. Riot Shift also manages break down the complete building with ear shattering sounds. With a few new tracks, including the devastating 'Machinery', everything seems to be collapsing. After they finish with their uptempo track called 'All Is Lost' we are left marvelling at the pace and atmosphere of today. Wow.

rebellion-2019-3

REBELLiON is being properly destroyed by the heaviest of tracks (what else) during the last set of the day, such as the Regain remix of 'Machine Gun' of Neroz and new solo tracks of Malice. After 11 hours of violence and loud noises (literally) the stamping and kickrolling has come to an end. The Call of the Dome was in our view a very successful event with a great dose of raw hardstyle. Everyone shouted along with every track and the crowd gave virtually everything they got which guaranteed an amazing atmosphere throughout the whole event. What a day!
