Fatality 2019 - The Raw Outdoor Festival

Mitchell van Eenige - 31 July 2019
Are you ready to kickroll? The Geffense plas in Oss has been transformed into a raw Valhalla for the fourth time, where the whole day is just being pounded. Everybody up to the maximum! This is Fatality 2019 - The Raw Outdoor Festival.

Even Mother Nature feels like it today. The weather is great. With about 28 degrees Celsius and a nice breeze on the terrain, it's good to hold out today. Time to explore the festival site further: you can go to the mainstage, Shadow Realm, the Malice hosting or the Bumper Car stage. In contrast to previous years, the storm track, which we know from Phoenix Festival, can also be found at Fatality Festival this year. You can also swim in the lake and chill on the beach, actually, the festival is too short for anything you want to see or do!

It's only 1:30 p.m. when Sins of Insanity at Shadow Realm treat us to a set that we'll talk about for a while. The real fans are in the front and the vibe is so good. The old Gearbox classics are doing especially well with the public, like ‘Skrillex & Rick Ross - Purple Lamborghini (Rebelion bootleg)’.

The guys from Sub Zero Project surprise us with their set at the mainstage. In a line-up full of the hardest artists from the raw hardstyle scene you might not expect a headliner as big as Sub Zero Project, but they show that they're completely at home on this stage as well. The melodic sound in combination with the deep Sub Zero-kicks are doing great with the audience and everyone sings or screams along with tracks like ‘Calling All Superheroes (Intents Festival 2019)’ and ‘The Solution’.

We stay at the mainstage and enjoy a half-hour live set of Act of Rage. Although the set is short, he knows how to divide his time well and the pace is good. When mixing in his last track, the whole audience goes wild, that rock-hard 'Mean Machine' edit continues to do great!

A few hours later we come back for another live set at the mainstage: E-Force Live. He plays a brand new track ‘Necromancer’ and his remix of ‘Reloaded’ is as always received with enthusiasm by the audience. It's unprecedented how, wherever he is, he gets the whole audience fistpumping. Then he closes off with a remix of ‘FTP’, only not the one we expected. E-Force jumps from behind the DJ-booth and stamp his feet off on this brilliant frenchcore/uptempo edit. We didn’t see that one coming!

The throttle is on during the set of Riot Shift at the Bumper Car stage. And apparently, we are not the only ones. There is a huge crowd in and around the stage, it seems as if all Fatality has gathered to go wild with this set. Rightly so, because what a genius set they give away! Everyone goes crazy and pounds hard on the devastating kicks of ‘Oblivion’ and the edit of ‘Gaan met die banaan’.

It's gotten dark now and the lasers, visuals, and flamethrowers come into their own at the mainstage. Warface treats us to a great Heavy Artillery set, where it's so busy that you can barely move. ‘Catalyst’ and the mash-up of ‘Mutilate & Destroy’ hit us like a bomb and when the War Force track ‘Party Your Ass Off’ is played, this set really can't break.

The advantage of partying under the Rivers is that the festival here always goes on longer. We don't have to think about the return trip yet, but all the more about going wild with Delete's set at the mainstage. He plays new tracks like ‘Peace’ and ‘Shut The Mind Up’ and then concludes with the VIP edit of ‘Level’ and ‘Watching You’. And even then we don’t go home; our favorite Scottish duo treats us to violence as the ideal dessert. Rebelion’s hard beats drive the last bit of energy out of the raw fanatics.

The day ends with a end show, without fireworks. Last year the end show could not take place because of the drought and Rebelion closed the day. They should have kept it that way because this years end show (in this form) was quite an anticlimax. Next year we'd rather have some extra Rebelion instead of some fire and songs we've heard more than 10 times the whole day.

The atmosphere was great, the sets even better. The sound on the mainstage needs an improvement, just like the final show mentioned above. Nevertheless, we had a great day at Fatality 2019. Are you a lover of the rough raw hardstyle sound? Then is Fatality your cup of tea! Good news: the next edition has already been announced on Saturday 25 July 2020. See you there!
