Reverze 2020: The Power of Perception

Reverze is known to be the ultimate indoor hard dance event of Belgium and Bass Events manages to prove this in 2020 once again. The line-up of this year is presented in two areas and it’s once again a line-up which is sure to please everyone. Reverze is bound to be an amazing edition once again! Welcome to the Power of Perception!

Even though the journey to the Sportpaleis in Antwerp takes over 3 hours of travelling, it’s more than worth it. We’re excited! After we managed to get through the que we run through our usual routine of getting a locker and toke... wait a minute, no tokens? That’s right! Reverze is using a cashless system this year. Besides that they also reintroduce the eco-token like they did at the Qontinent in 2019. It’s great to see that Bass Events is taking the current climate issues in consideration as well!

During the first hour of the evening it’s clear that everyone has to loosen up a bit yet the quality of the sound is already really well. During the course of the night the various details of the stage also start to become more visible: the middle consists of a large circle in the middle surrounded by large led screens. Besides that there are huge circles connected to the roof to which a large amount of lights is attached. We’re excited how this will look like later in the evening.

Jay Reeve and Primeshock have just started playing in the Lotto Arena. Even though the sound is still relatively soft it will definitely become much louder later during the night. The three guys manage to warm the crowd up really well with some cheerful euphoric tracks and their very first collaboration. A great way to get ready for the night! After this set it’s Adrenalize and Sephyx turn to show what they have in store. They play several new tracks of Adrenalize including his remix of ‘Lose Control’ by MEDUZA. ‘The Rhythm Of Life’ by TAC Team is played as well and with a melody which they can sing along all the way to Australia, it’s guaranteed that the crowd is now really getting ready to rave.

After these sets in the Lotto Arena it’s also time to witness the amazing lightshow at the Sportpaleis. Psyko Punkz just started getting behind the decks to play his set. We’re absolutely astonished by the stage and the lights as we enter the Sportpaleis from the back entrance. What a breathtaking view? The entire stage is revealed by now and it’s clear to see that the entire crowd is immersed in a sea of colours. Yet the lights which are attached to the ceiling aren’t even turned on yet - later during the night it’s getting even crazier! The set of Psyko Punkz fits in well with the energy of the crowd and with edits of ultimate classics such as ‘Dare Me’ by Junior Jack and ‘Insomnia’ by Faithless the party is complete. After this set we head back to the Lotto Arena again.

Once we arrive there we realise that Devin Wild just started playing his new live-act: ‘The Innergame’. Even though the Lotto Arena is a little smaller than the Sportpaleis, it’s still a sight to behold, the entire area is of colourful lights. Even at this stage a large amount of lights has been attached to the ceiling and aside from that there are even led-screens which hugely contribute to the visual effect of the various acts of the night. This is especially visible during the set of Devin Wild who premieres his live act which is enhanced by the amazing visuals presented on the led-screens. It’s an audiovisual spectacle of psychedelic colours and refreshing psy-kicks which make this set a really fun and unique experience.

Sub Sonik is up next yet compared with Devin Wild it’s less spectacular. It seems as if every track consists of the same kicks and build-up and the visuals of this set aren’t really amazing either. This is not necessarily a bad thing yet it isn’t exciting either. During the set of B-Front Live we decide to have a rest at the stands and just watch the show rather than going crazy. From the stands the view is even better and the lights seem to illuminate the entire area. With tracks such as ‘Energy’ and ‘Mysterias’ the crowd is being treated really well and B-Front manages to shake the entire building. A true hardstyle hero!

Even though Act of Rage is playing at the same time as ‘The Elite’, the new live-act of Coone, Da Tweekaz and Hard Driver, it’s easily noticeable that this asocial Mean Machine with kicks made of steel still manages to mess things up. The Elite is responsible for this year’s anthem, you would therefore expect that this anthemshow will attract a huge amount of people yet Act of Rage proves otherwise - he still manages to demolish a really densely packed stage. The tempo of mixing is insanely high and with a huge amount of great mashups the crowd is constantly being surprised. This set is of course closed down with several hardcore tracks such as ‘Kicks van Staal’ which almost depletes the entire energysupply of the crowd. We still got 5 hours to go!

At this moment the quality of sound has increased significantly in the Lotto Arena so we decide to stay here a little longer. Rejecta is playing a great set with several popular raw hits such as the Vertile remix of ‘Raging In The Dancehall’ combined with some unknown new banger which really manages to amazes us once again. Is Rejecta trying to destroy the speakers perhaps? Speaking about destroying, up next is probably the hardest act of the entire night: it’s time for Rebelion presents: Overdose.

After Rebelion managed to surprise everyone at Supremacy with the premiere of their new live act called ‘Overdose’ it remained to be the question whether they would surpass this at Reverze. The element of surprise was less effective this time yet the two guys still managed to cause complete mayhem in the Lotto Arena. The combination of spacey visuals and extreme kicks and screeches causes a lot of ‘Wow!’ and ‘WTF!’ moments in the crowd. This is mainly caused by several new Overdose edits of tracks such as ‘Fake Shit’ and ‘Within Me’. Once the guys have rounded up the madness with Reverse (or Reverze) Rehab the whole crowd starts cheering and clapping spontaneously. Fully deserved!

Let’s head back to the mainstage at which Warface and D-Sturb are presenting their Synchronised album. During the set of Sub Zero Project it already became clear how insanely amazing the lights installation was designed but Synchronised was on another level with the red-blue colour contrast. Breathtaking! The quality of the sound is almost perfect and everyone is going mental to the album tracks and also several new tracks such as the REBiRTH Festival anthem of this year. An amazing show with incredible colours!

again at which Dr. Peacock is doing a brave attempt to demolish the soundsystem. This is combined with stunning visuals and flashy lasers which illuminate the entire area. Everyone is cheering along with well-known frenchcore tunes: “All my friends are dead!” It’s getting even more crazy when Greazy Puzzy Fuckers appears behind the decks together with J1zzy. Madness is guaranteed as they are blasting the most crazy ‘piep’ kicks through the speakers. Halfway the set J1zzy decides to address the audience by making them shout: “When I say ‘f*ck’ you say ‘Corona’! F*ck Corona!” A clear statement towards the virus which could threaten the festival season - luckily we can still rave to the grave at Reverze!

At 07:00 the event unfortunately comes to an end. This edition was clearly one for the books in terms of light elements and quality of sound! The atmosphere was really cheerful and it was once again clear that our southern neighbors are also perfectly capable to organize amazing parties, every year again. It was a successful evening filled with amazing music. Until next time!
